Service dogs

Service dogs

This is in regard to Mr. Phillip Petty’s letter on Feb. 25 (Tribune-Herald, Your Views).

I have to say, using the fact you were in the Marines to bring a puppy into the store is no excuse. My brother has a service pet, and because of you and others who feel a need to bring their pets into stores, this is why my brother has problems.

Just for the record, a puppy isn’t a service pet, if you didn’t know. The service animal plays a vital role in society but has been degraded by people who think putting their pets in carriers or carrying them qualifies them to bring in their pets.

I have seen people’s pets doing their business in the stores, and the pet owner walking away for someone else to clean up their mess. I have been bitten in the fitting room by fleas. In one store, I was told people bring their pets into the fitting room.

I see women coming into the fitting room with their dogs. On one occasion, the fitting room had to be closed because someone’s pet urinated on the carpet.

What is needed are strict laws regarding service pets. My brother has no problem with requirements for a vest and ID cards for service animals. The people who are against it are the ones who want to bring their pets to the store.

Move on

When someone apologizes, and when the apology is accepted, there is nothing more to say.

Mayor Billy Kenoi publicly apologized for the pCard incident. Notwithstanding the legal aspects, the people of this county accepted his apology. That was evident by overwhelming majority at the County Council hearing testifying in support of Billy Kenoi.

There is nothing more to say.
